Orthopedic Foundation for Animals

Founded in 1966, our mission is to promote the health and welfare of companion animals through a reduction in the incidence of genetic disease. The OFA website and databases provide the tools needed, whether you are a veterinarian, breeder, or prospective animal owner.

The OFA databases are central to the organization’s objective of establishing control programs to lower the incidence of inherited disease. They serve all breeds of dogs and cats, and provide breeders a means to respond to the challenge of improving the genetic health of their breed through better breeding practices. The OFA databases are expanded as more tests become available.

Separate from the DNA Repository, the OFA offer DNA-based disease testing through an exclusive license arrangement with University of Missouri. All tests offered, as well as information about kits, etc are on the DNA Test page.

The CHIC (Canine Health Information Center) database is a tool that collects health information on individual animals from multiple sources. This centralized pool of data is maintained to assist breeders in making more informed breeding choices, and for scientists in conducting research. The CHIC program is breed-specific. In order to be in this database, a dog must be CHIC Certified. Read more about the CHIC Certification program.

The CHIC DNA Repository collects and stores canine DNA samples along with corresponding genealogical and phenotypic information to facilitate future research and testing aimed at reducing the incidence of inherited disease in dogs.  Read more about the DNA Repository.

Beaucerons des Monts du Lac

Trappe, MD

Since 1997 I have bred over 45 litters of beaucerons under “des Monts du Lac” affix. My dogs have won the highest awards for Beaucerons both in the United states of America and Europe. One of these Beaucerons has made history in the USA by being the first Beauceron to ever win an AKC all-breed Best in Show. The same dog also placed 3rd best herding dog at the Westminster Kennel Club Show in New York City in 2012. Today still no other Beauceron has placed in the group at that show. Throughout the years, I have also bred 2 National Specialty winner, 3 World Champions, 3 French Champions , 3 Vice French Champions and many other International and American Champions.

As a young person, I was a military officer and canine handler in the French army. So over the years, in addition to breeding beautiful sound dogs (mind and body) I have also developed a passion for search & rescue and the working ability of the breed. I am currently a FCI licensed temperament judge for herding dogs. Over 15 years I worked as a dog instructor in several dog clubs. I am currently captain of the French team for the World Search and Rescue Championship. I was even a board officer on the French National breed club called “Club des Amis du Beauceron”, specifically the General secretary for 4 years and participated on the working dog committee for 8 years.

Regalé Beaucerons

Bethany, CT

I purchased my foundation bitch from a breeder who bred the number one most winningest Beauceron in AKC history, Gideon. My foundation bitch, sired by Gideon, has now become the Highest Ranking Female in AKC, second only to her sire as the most winning Beauceron in AKC history. Maîtrise has been number one in the Beauceron Bred Statistics for 5 years. Maîtrise is the first female Beauceron to earn Best in Show, Reserve Best in Show, and the only Beauceron to earn Grand Champion Gold! And now, Maîtrise is the first and only Beauceron, male or female, to earn the title of Grand Champion Platinum! Her offspring, Regale's Casino Royal Definitely a winner aka Roulette, is now the Second female Beauceron to win Best in Show. Other titles include Multi-National Championships, temperament test, canine good citizen advanced, canine good citizen urban, rally novice, trick dog advanced, barn hunt novice, and lure coursing.

I chose the very best Beauceron I could find and spent two and a half years searching for a worthy and sound mate for my first litter. I found that dog at the French Nationals. His winning record rivals my female. Starting with the very best Beauceron I could acquire has led to a foundation like no other. Two of the pups from Maîtrise's first litter in September 2020, have received Grand Champion Status before their second birthday, plus the second only to her mom, Best in Show. My purpose for breeding, is to try to produce a better generation than the last, staying true to the standard of excellence, in all aspects of the breed, conformation and breed type, health, purpose, and temperament. If you have any interest of showing this magnificent breed please contact me. The characteristics of this breed is paramount, it is my goal to emulate the written breed standard. My foundation bitch has more than met those goals and I am looking forward to her prodigy and others in the Regale family to more than meet them, as well.

The Beauceron for me, is an elegant but yet rustic breed that has a formidable appearance yet is a sweet family dog. A dog that will not tire when asked to work, play, perform, or just be at your side.

Le Boulanger Beaucerons

Stephens City, VA

Our mission is to produce healthy, well-rounded Beaucerons, that can go from being the beloved pet, to the show ring and have the ability and desire to compete in a variety of other venues. A sound mind and physically correct structure can juggle the demands of this active breed. We focus a tremendous amount of time on socializing puppies and offer constant support to all of the families they go to, in order to help them develop into confident, well-mannered companions. We are very selective of the homes our puppies go to and want to make sure they are prepared to handle the challenges of the breed.

Mes Yeux Vigilants Beaucerons

In 1989 I got my first Beauceron from a noted French breeder. That Beauceron was International Champion Epic Des Fugues de Saint Alban and my foundation bitch. Epic was the first female Beauceron certified to do police work and was featured in “Dog Fancy” in 1993.

I am certified to teach people as instructors of assistance dogs. I have also worked for the United States Air Force as an evaluator of Bomb dogs and as an instructor. I am a member of the American Beauceron Club, Canine Good Citizen evaluator, Delta Society Member, MOKAN Pet Partner member and Center Place Business Association member.

My Beaucerons have competed in herding trials, conformation, agility, obedience, and schutzhund. Mes Yeux Vigilants has bred multiple winning dogs at our Journee’, which is the equivalent of a National Specialty Dog Show. Our brood bitch is the first female Beauceron to earn her American Championship. She also is an International, Mexican, and World Champion. Mes Yeux Vigilants strives to produce high quality and healthy Beaucerons.

Prairie Crest Beaucerons

Dekalb, Missouri

The home of Prairie Crest Beaucerons lies in the rolling hills of northwest Missouri. A lifelong dream is realized in this small hobby kennel devoted to preserving the centuries old breed of the Beauceron. I participate in AKC’s Breeder of Merit program and Breeder with a Heart. I am a member of the American Beauceron Club and have served two terms as a Regional Director plus as a Committee Chair.

My love of dogs began very early in my childhood. I started with my first show Shetland Sheepdog in 1983. I enjoy the aspects of the conformation world; the training, the conditioning and time in the ring. My favorite part of showing and breeding is puppyhood. My litters are few and selective to produce the best individual possible. Because of my passion for the Beauceron, I have been fortunate to travel throughout France multiple times. I competed in the 2012 French National Elevage with GCH Dominicia Mes Yeux Vigilants. I have traveled to use stud dogs and to bring home individuals to strengthen Prairie Crest. I have been lucky to have had many mentors and generous friends who have guided me to my dream of Prairie Crest Beaucerons.

I honor each puppy and individual who may come to and through Prairie Crest Beaucerons. Each puppy is sold with a contract which I take very seriously to protect my Prairie Crest Beaucerons. Your new family member might be waiting for you here at Prairie Crest. Through my application process, I hope to match you with the best individual possible.

I understand that to bring a Beauceron individual into your home and life is a big step. This breed connects with its people on a different level than most breeds. Admittedly so, their adolescence can be full of pranks and mischief if not given structure. But, the well-rounded adult brings such joy and companionship that it is worth it ALL in the end.

I have imported top French lines and am fortunate to have individuals from the top US Beauceron breeders to keep improving temperaments, structure and health. I understand the emotional, time and financial investment. Please look around and feel free to contact me with any questions. I will be happy to explain my puppy foundation techniques and protocols.

Yours, Adrienne

Beaucerons du Chateau Rocher

Woodlake, CA

At Beaucerons du Chateau Rocher, the Beauceron is a passion, not a business nor a livelihood. In our breeding program, we strive to maintain the true Beauceron temperament and working ability: a stable, trainable dog that is a pleasure to live with; a family companion and guardian without being a liability.

Our breeding stock comes from top French and Belgian working and show lines which are carefully combined to produce Beaucerons that are not only beautiful to look at, but have the ability to perform the tasks they were originally bred for. So many breeds end up split into “show dogs” that are nice to look at but have lost their working ability, and “working dogs” that have working ability but bear little resemblance to their breed Standards. At Beaucerons du Chateau Rocher we are determined not to let that happen!

Our puppies are handled daily from birth and are exposed to a variety of experiences and sounds as they grow. They are socialized with people and animals. They are individually identified so the progress and personality of each pup can be monitored. The utmost of care is taken to match the puppy with its new family.

River Rim Beaucerons

Victor, ID

I breed for type, temperament and health with none being more important than the other. I guarantee my dogs for a lifetime for all genetic or temperament problems or lifestyle changes. I strive for my dogs to be an asset to the breed never to burden the Beauceron breed and community with my dogs but, support and build our community.

I first interacted with a Beauceron when I was working my family kennel. 2 came in for boarding and I fell in love. By the time I was 12 years old, I had started discussing pedigrees.
